Elevated Torah Learning In the Legendary Beis Hamussar in Chatzer Strauss

Rav Itzlele Blazer zt”l
At Yeshiva Nesivos Ahron, the learning is inspired by the kedushas hamakom: the zechus of Toras Eretz Yisroel, right outside the Old City of Yerushalayim. Built in 1896 under the encouragement of Rav Simchah Zissel Ziv of Kelm zt”l, the legendary Chatzer Straus campus was once home to the great mussar giants of previous generations. Yeshivas Ohr Chadash, founded on the derech Torah and Mussar of Rav Yisroel Salanter zt”l, was established in the Chatzer in 1897. Rav Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld zt”l, who taught at the yeshiva, became president of the Yeshiva in 1899. Starting in 1904, The Beis Mussar on the Chatzer reverberated with the sweet sounds of talmidei chachamim involved in constant Torah Study and character development under the leadership of Rav Itzlele Blazer zt”l of Petersburg, later joined by Rav Naftali Amsterdam zt”l of Kovno. After an Arab uprising in 1936, the Torah scholars of the chatzer were forced to flee in fear of their lives, and over the decades the buildings fell into disrepair. In 2015, Yeshiva Nesivos Ahron purchased the chatzer, and began the renovations that would give the Yeshiva its new home.

The yeshiva was zoche to be built on the foundations of great tzadikkim, on the foundations of these holy stones. The walls of the beis medrash will testify that these walls are saturated with so much Torah and kedusha and yirah. So much fasting, so much teshuva, so much tahara was in this place, it can neither be measured nor described.

I am sure that R' Itzele Blozher, R' Naftali Amsterdam, R' Nachum Yitzchak and R' Avraham Broyde are all a source of zechus for this place, and will bring success to this place. From here, Torah will go forth, and gedolim and tzadikim will rise up from here. I wish you all good things and good mazel for all of your lives.
